Acting Principal’s Report

As Term 1 draws to a conclusion, I am immensely proud of the many accomplishments of the College this term. The various events and the daily teaching and learning, assessment preparation and programming is all achieved through the hard work of the staff at De La Salle. The community is blessed to have such dedicated staff committed to not only high quality teaching and learning everyday but providing opportunities for faith formation, building community and sport.

This term has seen Year 7 students successfully transition into our College with relative ease and several new staff members join the College. We have enjoyed events like the College Swimming Carnival, Year 7 Camp, retreats and Open Day, as well as various excursions and Project Compassion fundraisers. We have also celebrated an Ash Wednesday Mass, congratulated our 2022 HSC high achievers, Completed Naplan for Year 7 and Year 9, held several parent information evenings and competed in several finals of the Conference 3 Sydney Catholic Schools’ sporting competition.

Attendance

Mr Hollis has spoken to the college at various assemblies this term on the need for students to attend school every day. This is certainly important when the College celebrates events across the year. Attendance has improved this year and it is the expectation that all students are present on Holy Thursday, the last day of term to complete their final lessons and to acknowledge as a community, the passion of Christ at Easter in our Stations of the Cross ceremony.

“It is well understood that if students do not regularly attend school their subsequent learning and performance suffers. The evidence unequivocally supports the view that there are lifelong benefits to full participation in school.” (Stephen R. Zubrick, 2013)

Easter message

As we move towards Holy Week, it is important to stop and reflect upon what is the most important feast day in the Church Year - Easter Sunday. On the last day of term (Thursday 6 April), we will hold a Stations of the Cross ceremony for Holy Thursday.

I hope and pray that the Easter Season for our community is one that is full of hope and renewal. This is a time for families to come together to reflect on the Easter message of renewal, hope, faith, love and joy. I wish all students and their families a happy and holy Easter holiday.

College Open Night

This year the College held an Open night on Wednesday 15 March from 4-7pm. This was a change from the traditional Sunday open day and we did have an increase in family numbers this year. This was a great evening and the College was able to showcase all the wonderful facilities and examples of students learning from a variety of faculties. We had the beautiful piano playing of Tyler Lea, Science experiments, Maths puzzles and spelling quizzes where parents competed against their own children with some interesting results.

I would like to especially thank those students who volunteered as tour guides or assisted by playing music, and greeting families at the different venues. Feedback from families on the day was extremely positive and many commented on how impressive our students were in welcoming and engaging with them as they toured the school. Well done boys, you are true ambassadors of the College!

“We just wanted to say that it was really lovely to visit your school for your Open Day on Wednesday 15th March. We were so impressed by the facilities and how welcoming and friendly every staff member and student was. There were lots of exciting things to look at and activities happening in all faculties. Our children particularly loved the cookies from the TAS department! When we came home, we watched the principal’s welcome address using the QR code. Thank you so much.”

Congratulations Noel Walter

Noel Walter of Year 12, 2022 received an excellence award for achievement in Certificate II in Business at the Executive Director’s Awards for Excellence. The College is extremely proud of Noel and this achievement and we wish him well as he continues his studies in a Bachelor of Business at Western Sydney University.

Orders for packages and sibling photographs can be placed securely online at the link below using our school’s unique 9-digit advanced order code. Portrait and group package orders are due by photography day.

Should you wish to purchase a sibling photograph online, the order must be placed no later than the day before photography day. Sibling photographs will only be taken if an order has been placed.

Vaccination Changes

The Year 7 Vaccinations are on 18 May and the Year 10 Vaccinations are on 27 June. This year, parent/carers must provide consent online for school vaccination, replacing the existing paper-based consent process. This will allow:

  • Easy update of student details
  • SMS notifications when vaccinations are given
  • Faster upload of vaccination records to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR)

To provide consent online, parents will need to:

  1. NSW School Vaccination Program Portal
follow the steps to log in via ServiceNSW account. (If you don’t have a ServiceNSW account, refer to ServiceNSW to create one.)
  2. Update or confirm your personal details in your ServiceNSW as required.
  3. Complete the School Vaccination Consent Form for your child/ren. You will need to:
    • Enter your child’s personal details
    • Provide the Medicare card details for you and your child
    • Read the linked Parent Information Sheet
    • Provide consent

Easter Holidays / Return to Term 2

I would like to wish all students and their families a happy and holy Easter holiday. It is time for students to take a break from school, strengthen their faith at this important time of Easter and to spend some quality time with their families.

Return to Term 2: Holidays can also be a time when students experiment with their hair and grooming. Students are reminded to ensure their hair and grooming meets the standards of the College on their return on Wednesday 26 April. A reminder the regulation College blazer is compulsory for Term 2 and 3.

What should my son do if he is absent from school on the day of an assessment task?

As we approach the end of Term 1, most courses have had their first formal assessment tasks. Assessment Calendars and Handbooks have been shared via Compass (and in hard copy) by Mr Kousparis, who has also spoken to students in Year Group gatherings and/or at Information Evenings for Years 10 and 11, to remind all students of the procedures to follow. Of particular note are the processes to follow in the event of an unforeseen absence.

For students in Years 10, 11 and 12

If your son is absent on the day a task is due/to be completed, please contact the relevant KLA coordinator to notify them of the absence either via telephoning the school, or sending an email. Reasons for absence on the day of the task included serious illness or injury which requires medical attention. Students are to complete the 10-12 Illness/Misadventure Form and return it to the relevant KLA coordinator for that subject with specific details and relevant supporting documentation attached (eg. a Medical Certificate covering the date the task is due or to be completed and any other dates the student was deemed unfit to attend school). Failure to follow the policy or produce appropriate evidence for the absence will result in a zero mark being awarded, an N-award Warning Letter and an Academic Detention issued. Several N-Award warning letters for a subject puts students at risk of being ineligible in qualifying for their Higher School Certificate (for students in Year 12) or a Record of School Achievement (in the case of students in Years 10 or 11). More information about N-Award may be found in the Assessment Handbooks or from the NESA website. Additionally, it is part of the College Assessment Policy that any student absent on the day before an assessment task must supply a medical certificate on the day he returns to school.

For students in Years 10, 11 and 12

If your son is absent on the day a task is due/to be completed, please contact the relevant KLA coordinator to notify them of the absence either via telephoning the school, or sending an email. Students must complete the 7-9 Illness/Misadventure Form and return it to the relevant KLA coordinator on the first day back following the absence. A note from a parent/carer explaining the reason for the absence must be attached to the form for it to be considered.

For assessment tasks missed due to leave

In the event that a student is going on leave (greater than 2 days), they must complete a Leave Form in advance, prior to taking leave. This includes leave for family holidays, work placement or representative sport. Any assessment tasks that fall during this timeframe will then have alternate submissions dates and/or completion dates determined by the relevant KLA coordinator(s) before the student goes on leave. We ask that parents and carers are mindful of the assessment calendar when planning family holidays to avoid students missing assessment tasks, particularly in the senior years 10-12. Copies of these calendars for each year group are linked below.

All of these forms are also available online via Compass and the College Website, and more comprehensive details of the policies and procedures for a range of different circumstances may be found at the start of the assessment handbooks for each year. For convenience, I have linked them all below.

We kindly ask parents and carers to please familiarise themselves with these policies and procedures to ensure that their sons follow these correctly to ensure that they complete all assessment tasks by the due date.

Study Skills Workshops for Years 10 and 11

On Monday 13 March, Dr Prue Salter from Enhanced Learning Educational Services (www.enhanced-learning.net) ran a study skills session with all students in Year 10. The session focused on helping students identify changes and improvements they could make to their approach to their studies to maximise their results in Year 10 and prepare for their senior studies. The session focused on time management issues – working effectively at home, dealing with distractions, planning for assessments and making the most of available time.

Prue also ran a study skills session with all students in Year 11, building on the work done with the students in previous sessions. The session reviewed the Year 10 time management principles and focused on improving how students study for assessments and examinations. Making brain-friendly study notes was also addressed.

Parents/carers are encouraged to review the handout from the session with students and discuss the main areas identified where changes need to be made. Parents can also find extra study skills tips on the following website: http://studyskillstoptipsparents.com/. All secondary students and parents at our school also have access to a great study skills website to help students develop their skills.

Go to the link below and enter the username: fordlsrevesbyonly and the password: 77results. There are lots of useful handouts on the THINGS TO PRINT page on this site, and students can work through the units where they need additional help.

Year 12 Holiday Revision Classes

Some subjects are running holiday revision classes over the 2 week break. This includes some Masterclass run through Sydney Catholic Schools via Zoom. The final timetable will be published to Year 12 students and parents via Compass early in Week 10. We encourage students to avoid making plans or taking work shifts during the times that their subjects are running a revision class.

Green Day Report

On Friday the 17th of March, Year 9 held Green Day. This day allowed students to dress up in Green Mufti as well as several Year 9 students selling green delights outside the Science block.

The school thanks all parents who donated their time, effort and green food to the stall. Foods such as doughnuts, cupcakes, and lolly bags sold out completely by the end of recess allowing Year 9 to raise $1,293.10.

Thank you to all the students that helped in the preparation, setting up and selling of food on Green Day. Thanks to Year 9 Coordinator Mr Rouhliadeff for allowing them to create such a great opportunity to raise funds and congratulations to all students of the Patrick House who celebrated their Patron Saint.

Sincerely,

Albert Tran – Year 9 SRC

Patrick House Celebration Day

Patrick house were the beneficiaries of our inaugural feast day celebrations. Pastoral teachers and students gathered to celebrate mass in Period 4. A BBQ lunch was then shared by all members of Patrick house building on camaraderie between students of different year groups.

A short reflection on St. Patrick was given with the main theme being that teamwork and doing things together brings much success and reward, much as St Patrick did with his early missionary work.

Congratulations to Patrick house who at the time of their feast day were leading the ‘Shield of Spirit’. They are now running a close 2nd in the race for the Shield.

In Period 5 the boys had an opportunity to get active and engage in a number of pursuits, including Basketball, Futsal, Pass the footy comp, Table tennis, Chess as well as a gym rowing challenge. The 30 second row for distance was very popular and some house records were set.

Joseph House Celebration Day

Joseph house celebrated their feast day last Tuesday 21st March.

The boys and their teachers gathered to reflect and celebrate mass together.

An enjoyable BBQ lunch was then shared by the house members alongside their respective pastoral teachers.

Students then gathered for a short reflection on St. Joseph and took time to think critically about how he was a dedicated, humble man and the pressure and responsibility that came with raising the son of God.

A fair like atmosphere was to follow, pass-the-ball competition was pumping as was the basketball courts with plenty of high intensity competition.

The chess room was a picture of concentration and the rowing challenge proved competitive.

Well done to all members of Joseph house who are the current ‘Shield of Spirit’ leaders!!

ROUND 5 SCS3 REPRESENTATIVE SPORT

Junior Touch Football

Another beautiful hot Thursday afternoon for some touch football down at Carss Park as the De La junior touch team took on Marist Penshurst in Round 5 of the competition. Coming in 3rd place before the round the boys were confident that they could jag a relatively easy win against bottom place Penshurst.

We got off to an absolute flyer with Caleb Mitchell bagging himself his first within 2 minutes quickly followed by another that put us in the driver's seat. Unfortunately our hard work was undone by some poor defensive reads letting Penshurst back into the game at 2-2. Our pregame confidence was looking a little deflated. Thankfully the boys rallied around each other and took themselves out of the library and started chatting away, getting themselves and their teammates into the right defensive and attacking positions leading to a try by Flynn Lovett who went over in the corner. From then the boys put on a defensive masterclass, jamming in from the wings whilst providing cover support to shut down any attack Penshurst threw at them. Thanks to a try to Lucas Dawes and some beautiful, silky playmaking by Jackson Vajdevski we went into the half 5-2 feeling confident in our ability to see out the game.

The second half started no differently with Caleb Mitchell and the wingers connecting for a few more tries and some solid defensive efforts. A big shout out to all the boys who went over for a meat pie; Jackson, Flynn and Noah who bagged themselves doubles, Caleb who bagged his third hattrick for the season and Lucas who snuck over in the corner for his one. All the boys should be proud of their effort and comradery. The score officially settled at 10-4 to De La with Caleb Mitchell winning another Players player medal to add to his tally for the year. This team is shaping up well for our run into the finals.

Intermediate Touch Football

The Intermediate Touch Team did it’s best Jekyll v. Hyde impersonation today.

In the first half, we were undisciplined and inexplicably back in Touch Football preschool, having seemingly forgotten the fundamentals of the game.

The result was a 4-1 lead in Penshurst’s favour at the end of the first stanza.

After some ‘words’ at half time, the boys rebooted with discipline, focus, strong drives, execution and committed man-on-man D in the second half, leading to a draw in the second stanza.

What a shame we couldn’t do it for the whole game – something we will work at in the future.

Touchdowns today were courtesy of Pat Forrester (2) Georgio Kairouz and Isaiah Rivas.

Senior Touch Football

The senior boys Touch football had a top 4 clash on the cards against Penshurst Marist. The first half was close to perfection from our boys. Effort/intensity/attitude was discussed pre game and didn’t the boys deliver! Our boys took a commanding 8-1 lead into the break. More was to come in the second half, however a few errors crept in and we conceded a couple of tries. This was probably the open boys best performance of the season so far. Well done!

An exciting match that game down to the final 10 seconds. Jayden Kari nabbed a crucial rebound, hit a much needed basket and drew the foul to make it to the free throw line. It is always good to face Penshurst Marist! They always bring a lot of enthusiasm and height. It was a close game for the first half, we only edged them out by 5 points and it was anyone's game. Moving into the second half, Noah Sportelli found a rhythm that was hard to break. If he wasn’t scoring, he was assisting. We put on 24 points in the last half and our lock down defenders on the inside stopped their main offensive efforts.

It was a top of the table clash between De La Salle and Penshurst Marist in the SCS Competition. With a few injuries and illnesses, our boys weren't firing on the first whistle and as a result, Penshurst got into an early single digit lead. Half way into the first half, the scores were tied at 9 apiece after an early timeout by Mr Zaborski, instructing the boys to step it up and to fix up our offensive game. The scores were 21-16 to conclude the first half as the boys were struggling to get into a rhythm, giving up easy baskets.

A good start to the second half saw us cut Penshurst Marist's lead quite quickly. However, Penhurst were still keeping their lead with about 8 minutes left to play. After key starters Ali Hammoud and Patrick Dawes came down with injuries late on, a big effort was needed from the others to try and win the game. With 5 minutes to play a few quick baskets helped cut the lead to only a few points, but our defense was still lacklustre as Penshurst were able to score some points and keep the game in their favour. With less than a minute remaining and scores within touching distance, a foul from Penshurst on Dominic Vuljanic's three-point attempt saw him go to the line to cut the lead down to one. He made two out of three free throws but unfortunately it was too late for the boys to salvage a comeback win with the game ending 37-35 in favour of Penshurst Marist, giving the senior team its first loss of the season. Well done to Penshurst, but it's time for our boys to rest and recharge their batteries for another challenging matchup next Thursday against Aquinas Menai.

ROUND 6 SCS3 REPRESENTATIVE SPORT

Junior Touch Football

An absolute stinker of a day to play some touch footy at the ridge but the boys were fired up and ready to give it a red hot crack nonetheless. In the penultimate round of the regular season we took on Menai who didn’t pose a huge threat but we still had to keep our heads about us and play some good touch football to beat. Led by our captain Flynn Lovett as voted by the boys we started relatively well with Ashton going over early to take us out to a quick 1-0 lead. We then quickly added onto that with a Caleb Mitchell signature dummy that sent one of the Menai boys in the wrong direction allowing him to stroll over. Playing some great defence for the day De La were holding strong, with the intention to keep their opponents score as low as possible for the day. We settled into quarter time leaders and never looked back. Some intense attack put us up 3 with Jackson Vajdevski burrowing his way like a badger over the line.

Unfortunately a lack of concentration helped Menai to get a quick one back taking us into the half at 3-1. Resolute on not allowing another one in, the boys rallied and put on a defensive masterclass in the second half whilst also piling on a few tries of their own. Highlight of the day goes to George Kupu who, like Nostradamus, foretold his future intercept. Like Selwyn Cobbo who he likens himself to, he took a fantastic intercept to keep Menai out. Whilst he did step off the mark and give the ball away within a matter of seconds of taking the intercept it was a fantastic effort by George and one that was celebrated more than a grand final win by his teammates. The De La spirit was strong today taking us out to a cruisey 7-1 victory. Caleb Mitchell secured another hattrick, Ashton McDonald bagged himself a double and Jackson Vajdevski and Noah Braddick rounded out the scoring with one a piece. George Kupu was voted Players Player which himself and the boys were more than stoked about. A great effort by the De La Junior touch team on and off the field today.

Intermediate Touch Football

Unfortunately, it was the same old story for the Intermediate Touch Footy team this week.

We threw the first half away through some poor discipline and gamesmanship (although it was better than last week) before acting like a professional and well-oiled unit in the second half, arresting the slide.

The final score was Revesby – 1, Menai – 5.

As we cannot make the semis, we have one game to go. Hopefully we can put together a full 40 minutes of class so that we can finish the season on a high.

The best players were:

  • Mitch Rowe (3 points): A real team leader and vocal tactician.
  • Liam Martin (2 points): His game really came together this week and Liam was absolutely on point in defence.
  • Patrick Forrester (1 point): What can I say about our fearless captain? An awesome talent, a fantastic leader and worthy of three points every week. A worthy recipient of the Players’ Player Award yet again.

Mr. Alex Rouhliadeff – Coach.

Senior Touch Football

The senior boys took on an improving Aquinas side in what would prove a good test for the boys. Both sides demonstrated solid defence with tries proving hard to come by. After a tight first half our boys led 3-2 and knew they were in for a battle. A more focused team came out in the second half and a couple of early tries took the pressure off in some way. A good determined second half saw our boys come out 6-3 victors in what was our first real test of nerve and execution under pressure.

This was a tough game with a highly skilled and fast paced opposition. The boys did their best to stay in the game but quick movement and several fast break baskets saw Aquinas build a double digit lead by the end of the first half which they were able to add to heading into the second half. A physical game saw many hard plays at the ball go without a whistle and the Revesby team did their best to play through the contact. Jayden Kari did a great job on the offensive boards whilst Noah Raish and Jayden Janto put in a good defensive effort disrupting the opposition’s offensive plans. The boys are eager to get back out there and correct some of their mistakes in the next game.

With a few team members under the weather, we were unsure how we would go against Aquinas Menai. It seemed like it was going to be a close one for the first 5 minutes and then our boys stepped up the tempo and they struggled to get the ball up the court. The speed of Matt Lau and Krit Giri left the opposing team wondering what happened for most of the game and the lock down defence of Lucas Padron and Noah Lupo stopped them getting close enough to the ring to score with frequency. We sit top of the table and undefeated as we enter the final round against our toughest competition.

Another difficult round against a top four opponent in Aquinas Menai. After travelling to play at Aquinas, it was always going to be a difficult task overcoming the home court advantage. On a sweltering hot day, the Senior team started very sluggishly falling behind 16-4 in the first ten minutes of the game. After a timeout and a regroup, the boys fought hard to close the gap before halftime. Incredibly strong and smart play from Pat Dawes helped Revesby catch Menai and eventually pull out an eight point lead with less than a minute remaining in the game. Despite Aquinas best efforts to claw back into the game, and with a chance to tie the game at the buzzer, Revesby’s defence and spirit was a telling factor in a hard fought win, 41-38.

ROUND 7 SCS3 REPRESENTATIVE SPORT

Junior Touch Football

Coming up against the competition leaders in the final round of the season was a match up that we relished and gave us an idea of who we needed to beat to be crowned champions in the coming weeks. Caringbah was a great opponent and really pushed us to our limits.

Coming off some easy wins previously we were a bit taken back when Caringbah took off to a flyer with 2 quick tries in the opening minutes putting us on the back foot immediately. A well drilled team with some agile, quick players had us really working hard and doing a lot of defending throughout the half. After a few sets of poor decision making and dropped balls the De La boys started to pull it back scoring a try thanks to Noah Braddick down the right wing to keep us in the contest. Unfortunately Caringbah’s skill got them to a 4-1 lead at halftime with a try right on half time to really drive in the dagger.

Realising we were up against it today and really needed to focus, the boys set out in the second half to prove they weren't just going to be a walk over and that if you wanted to beat them you had to really beat them for 40 minutes. Coming out with a new focus and passion the boys started rapidly, almost flipping the script on its head scoring two quick tries to rein back the score to 4-3 with a hefty 15 minutes to go. From there Caringbah realising they were in a dog fight really pulled out all stops making some great touches and making some absurdly great reads and plays to deny De La the chance to capitalise on their early success in the half. The boys fought hard with the try scoring going back and forth for the rest of the half ending in a 6-4 defeat. Although we lost, the boys did win the second half 3-2 and took some confidence knowing that if we really focused and turned up for each other we could go toe to toe with the leaders when we inevitably meet next time.

A massive shout out to the try scorers; Noah, Caleb and Ashton as well as our middles who deservedly got all 3 of the MVP votes this week for their valiant effort out in the middle and the big minutes they had to play to keep the Caringbah team at bay.

Although we lost our final game 4-1 to De La Caringbah, the boys finished strongly in what was their best game of the season.

Caringbah put a few sneaky tries on us in the first 10 minutes, but we went toe-to-toe with them over the next 30 minutes, a period in which the score ended up being 1-all.

What impressed me most about that effort is that it came despite us being no chance for the semis.

The best players were:

  • Pat Forrester (3 points).
  • Noah Sawaqued (2 points).
  • Scott Beattie (1 point) + also awarded Players’ Player.

The final points tally is as follows (Players’ Player also attracted three points each week):

  • 1st place: Pat Forrester (27 points).
  • 2nd place: Andrew Howard (8 points).
  • =3rd place: Scott Beattie (4 points).
  • =3rd place: Mitch Rowe (4 points).

I thank the boys for giving the game a great crack this season.

Most were L-platers and because it was difficult to organise a training time for which all were available, it was difficult to learn and practise the science of Touch.

Having said that, despite some ups and downs, our level of positive effort grew each week and the boys seemed to have a lot of fun in the process.

The final round game of the competition brought an opportunity to fine tune the teams game plans and combinations for the finals next week. The boys were caught off guard a little by the enthusiasm and commitment of the Cronulla opposition and over the first twenty minutes found themselves in a real arm wrestle. 4-3 was the score at half time with our boys taking a slender lead. The chat at the break was around speed of play and taking the line on. The second half painted a much different picture with our team dominating from start to finish - running out 13-5 victors. Congratulations to the boys for finishing the season undefeated and looking forward to finals next week.

This week saw the boys take on the undefeated competition leaders, Caringbah. They were tall and athletic and moved the ball well on offense. The Revesby boys were off to a great start securing a small lead in the first half. Some excellent communication and defensive pressure forced several turnovers which led to fastbreak baskets for our team. Caringbah fought back and built momentum building a double digit lead towards the end of the first half. The Revesby boys dug their heels in and continued to pressure Caringbah on defense whilst some great offensive plays from Lucas Jantjies, Kevin Bayer and Jayden Janto kept the scoreboard ticking over. Aayan Shrestha and Jaydn Kari did an outstanding job on the offensive and defensive boards. We closed the gap and brought the scores level in the final minute. Caringbah forced the steal and went on to score down the end giving them a 2 point advantage. With 4 seconds to shoot with an inbound play from the sideline, the Revesby boys attempted to go for the draw but the Caringbah team swarmed the ball forcing a tough shot which bounced out. It wasn’t meant to be this week but the boys played excellent team basketball and pushed the competition leaders right to the edge. Caringbah 34 Revesby 32

This week we played a depleted Caringbah team, who look to be our biggest competition this season. We tried to take it easy and not give our tactics away before the finals, but our boys struggled to play at a speed below their usual intensity. So we unleashed the beast and put on a significant lead through the use of full court defence.

An inform De La Revesby were up against a struggling De La Cronulla side in round 7 of the SCS competition. The boys started off firing, jumping to a 15 point lead in the space of 5 minutes. From the get go, the tempo and momentum went our way as shots were hitting and our defense being rock-solid. The boys finished the half with a 20 point lead and were looking comfortable.

The second half was much of the same as everything was going to plan as we solidified a 40 point lead and the opposition had no response. As the bench players got some crucial game time, we still maintained a solid performance across the board. The game finished 30-69 and well done to the boys for their big win.

ROUND 8 SCS3 REPRESENTATIVE SPORT - Finals Day!

Junior Touch Football - Semi final and grand final!

A challenging yet rewarding day for the De La Revesby boys on finals day. Thankfully the sun was out and we were able to play at Barden Ridge without any changes to the game schedule. We started the day with the first of our two games, the semi final, against St. John Bosco College, Engadine who were one of the two teams to beat us in the regular season, albeit without half our team who were away for representative duties. The game was fast paced and entertaining with the De La boys taking a quick 2-0 lead with Ashton and Caleb going over, Caleb throwing another beautiful dummy to take his dummy leading to a try tally to 5+ this season. The game was back and forth with tries being scored every other set. Just before the half time siren Ashton Mcdonald was able to channel his inner Ronaldo Mulitalo and go over acrobatically in the corner taking his tally to 3 for a first half hattrick whilst Caleb had a pair for himself. 5-3 at the half.

The second half was nearly identical to the first with the teams going back and forth. Caleb was able to complete his hattrick early in the half as he burrowed over down the middle giving us a comfortable cushion to continue with our game and playing some really good, fast-paced touch football. Shoutout to all the boys this game but especially Caleb Mitchell and Ashton McDonald who both bagged a 5 piece, scoring all 10 of our tries for the game. A truly incredible effort by not only those two boys but the rest of the team who were there to assist them and set them up. Final score 10-6 to De La.

The final which was unfortunately played on the same day saw us take on Caringbah who we had played and fought hard with last week but who had the wood over us. Nothing really of note happened in the first half as the tired legs really showed from the De La boys who although up to the challenge were no match for the fresher legs of De La Caringbah who took a swift 4-0 lead at the half.

Knowing that our fate was all but sealed at the half, the boys didn't want to give Caringbah an easy win and really made them work for it. A really great start to the half saw us come back and reduce the deficit to 2 after two quick tries by Caleb Mitchell which gave us the ascendancy. Unfortunately a few phantom touches and some calls that didn't go our way put us back on the back foot to which Caringbah took advantage off and blew the game out of sight eventually taking the victory. Although Caringbah won the game the biggest cheer came for superstar winger George Kupu who went over in the corner in the final minute of the game securing his one and only try of the season, one in which the boys had been working tirelessly all season to get him. The cheer that went up for George went unmatched, a truly spectacular moment that will live in De La Revesby history for millenia. Final score 9-4.

Unable to split the efforts of Ashton and Caleb today they both earned the 3 points for the MVP race. A spectacular season for all involved and we cannot wait to go around again next season.

Senior Touch Football - Semi Final and Grand Final Champions!

The senior boys took on Bosco in the 1v4 semi final in what was a glorious day at the Ridge sporting complex. Both teams came out firing and the first half was a real shootout, going try for try. The half time score of 6-5 to us was the result of a high quality contest. The second half saw our boys continually apply pressure and errors started to creep in to the Bosco team. Our boys pulled away for a tight 11-7 victory. The performance was a great demonstration of concentration under fatigue, and winning the big moments. Jack Hanratty put on a masterclass and was clearly the man of the match.

The Conference 3 Grand Final saw our boys take on Kogarah Marist. Our boys came out on fire and put on a number of quick tries early in the first half.

The pressure was telling on the opposition who had several players substituted off by the referee for descent. After a clinical first half our boys lead 6-1. More of the same was to come in what was a dominant display. The runaway 11-1 Grand final victory was the culmination of a fantastic effort all season. All the boys chipped in with some classy attack and critical defensive play. Well done to the entire team on completing the rare achievement of undefeated premiers in Conference 3. To the finishing Year 12 boys in the team thank you for your sport representation over many years at DLS Revesby. Thanks to Jack Hanratty as Captain for his leadership and guidance throughout the season.

Junior Basketball - Semi Final

The boys were excited to play in the semi final against Menai after a tough loss 2 weeks earlier. The boys made a good start to the game playing some smart basketball, moving the ball through hands and communicating well on the defensive end. The scores were close early on before the opposition started to build a small lead. A time out by the Revesby team resettled the group as they got back into the game putting up some much needed points and coming up with a few defensive stops down the other end. The well drilled Menai team pushed the tempo of the game forcing some turnovers and capitalising down the other end. Some strong plays by Xavier Farr and Kevin Bayer kept the dream alive but the margin opened up to a double digit lead. Our team decided to give the opposition a taste of their own medicine clogging the key with a 2-3 zone defence but this just forced the outside shooters who were able to knock down some long range buckets further adding to our woes. A resurgence by the Revesby team led by some strong aggressive plays by Kevin Bayer brought the team back to life but we ran out of time in the end and Menai was awarded the victory and the right to play in the grand final. Thanks to the players, organisers, coaches and referee for the game..

Semifinal

It’s always good to beat Mr Ghantos at the sport he loves! We faced Kogarah in the semi and it was a hard fought contest from the start. It was only in the second half that we began to pull away using our tight defence to force turnovers and capitalise on the fast break. Led by Noah Sportelli and Matt Lau, and a superb effort off the bench from Adam Nasser, the team pulled together the win.

Grand Final

When you’ve gone the whole season undefeated, a loss in the grand final is a hard one to take. Caringbah DLS played a very physical game and we were in foul trouble from the first minute. They ran their offence through their big man and he seemed to be unstoppable. Krit Giri put his hand up in the second half and shut down the scoring on the inside, it was an uphill battle and the boys were gassed. We just couldn’t get there in the end. It has been a highlight of my year coaching this team. They trained and played as a unit and continually looked to improve their game each time they took the court.
