Literacy & Numeracy
The importance of developing literacy skills is well established. Strong literacy skills empower and enable the students at De La Salle College Revesby Heights to become critical, creative thinkers and effective communicators who actively engage in society.
The College’s Literacy Vision Statement highlights the importance of literacy at De La Salle College Revesby Heights and establishes clear aspirations for the literacy development of the students. The statement also identifies the responsibilities of all key stakeholders to the development of student literacy skills. By enhancing the literacy skills of our students, we seek to develop them into lifelong learners who are confident and who have an enriched sense of wellbeing.
De La Salle College Revesby Heights recognises the important role it plays in enhancing the numeracy skills of its students. Students become numerate as they develop the knowledge and skills to use mathematics confidently across all learning areas and in their lives. Numeracy encompasses the knowledge, skills and behaviours that students need to use mathematics in a wide range of situations. It involves students recognising and understanding the role of mathematics in the world and having the dispositions and capacities to use mathematical knowledge and skills purposefully.
Teachers at De La Salle College Revesby Heights provide students with the opportunities to transfer their mathematical knowledge and skills to contexts outside the mathematics classroom. These opportunities help students recognise the interconnected nature of mathematical knowledge, in other learning areas and the wider world, and encourage them to use their mathematical skills broadly.
